Dashboard warning lights, explained
Check engine (steady)
Color: Amber. A confirmed fault was stored. Reading the code is a good first step toward understanding it.
Check engine (flashing)
Color: Amber. Often signals an active misfire that can overheat the catalytic converter. Reduced driving and prompt inspection are commonly advised.
Oil pressure
Color: Red. Low oil pressure can damage an engine quickly. Many manuals advise stopping safely and checking oil.
Coolant temperature
Color: Red. Indicates overheating. Owner's manuals typically advise pulling over and letting the engine cool.
Battery or charging
Color: Red. The charging system may not be keeping the battery charged.
Tire pressure (TPMS)
Color: Amber. One or more tires may be below the recommended pressure.
ABS
Color: Amber. The anti-lock braking function has a fault. Normal braking usually remains, without anti-lock assist.
Maintenance due
Color: Green or blue. An informational reminder that scheduled service is approaching.
